FAQ

What is the difference between Renal, Renal Special, and Renal Select?

Royal Canin has developed three veterinary dog diets that target renal and kidney health: Royal Canin Renal, Royal Canin Renal Special, and Royal Canin Renal Select. And you may be wondering what’s the best to feed your dog.

The difference between Royal Canin Renal and Renal Special is the flavor. Royal Canin Renal and Renal Special have the same ingredients and texture but a different taste and smell due to the presence of different additives. As such, Royal Canin Renal Special dog food was formulated for those furry friends who refuse to eat Royal Canin Renal dog food and need a special taste to stimulate their appetite.

Additionally, the difference between Royal Canin Renal Special and Renal Select cat food is the texture. Royal Canin Renal Select features a crescent kibble shape that is easy to rehydrate while Renal Special’s kibble is round.

How can I feed Royal Canin food to my pet?

First, when introducing new food to your pet’s diet, make a gradual transition. We recommend you do a transition phase of seven days to avoid dietary issues. Mix a portion of the new food with your pet's current food, gradually increasing the ratio every three days until your pet is fully adapted.

Initially feed Royal Canin Renal Special Dog for up to six months in cases of chronic renal insufficiency.

Make sure your pet always has fresh water available. For better results, you can combine the dry food with the Royal Canin Renal Special wet dog food, which you can feed separately or in the same bowl.

Nevertheless, before use and for further guidance, speak to your vet and follow their advice.
